Delhi plans to impose night curfew as covid cases surge |

The Home Ministry has issued new guidelines allowing the
States and Union Territories to impose restrictions such as
night curfew. In Delhi, the average deaths a day during the
month due to coronavirus has crossed 100 and 6,000 cases
are being reported on a day. |
NEW DELHI, Nov 28: The Delhi Government is actively considering to impose night
curfew in the Capital as part of measures to prevent spread of coronavirus,
the Government has told the High Court. The Government counsels told a bench
of Justices Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad that while a decision on the imposition
of curfew is yet to be taken, it is actively being considered.
The Home Ministry had on Wednesday issued new guidelines allowing the States
and Union Territories to impose restrictions such as night curfew to arrest
the transmission of coronavirus pandemic. However, the Ministry asked the States
not to impose any lockdown outside containment zones without consulting the
Centre.
The court was hearing a petition on covid testing facilities in Delhi. The
Capital currently has been conducting this month on an average 51,244 tests
a day, the court was told. Of this, 19,680 are RT-PCR tests.
In view of the ongoing wedding season, the court wanted a check on crowding
which is conducive to transmission of covid. “How are you enforcing cap on marriage
gatherings? Are you conducting random check or is there any protocol that you
are maintaining? This is the season where several marriages are either going
on or are scheduled,” the bench said.
Stating that the situation is "alarming", the court asked the Government to
submit a status report.
There were 98 deaths in Delhi in the last 24 hours, and 5,482 cases, while
Maharashtra reported maximum cases in the country at 6,185 and deaths at 65.
Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Kerala are reporting improvement in
the situation.
