Rajinikanth gets a 'warning from God', quits plan to launch
party |

Tamil film star Rajinikanth, after being discharged from
hospital, has declared that his health will not permit him
to join active politics. He had promised his fans he would
join the fray in the coming Assembly elections and make an
announcement by year-end. Last week he was admitted to
a hospital in Hyderabad where he had gone for the shooting
of film 'Annaatthe'. |
CHENNAI, Dec 29: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has declared that he will not
join politics as he has got a "warning from God". He has dropped the plan to
launch his political party due to ill health.
He had said that he would make an announcement about the launching of his party
by year-end but his health deteriorated and he had to be admitted to hospital
in Hyderabad where he was shooting for 'Annaatthe' last week. He had severely
fluctuating hypertension. He has since returned to Chennai. The Assembly elections
are due in the new year.
After being discharged from hospital he had second thoughts as also doctors
warned him to take care of his health and not indulge in strainful activities.
He had previously also been warned as his immune system had become weak following
a renal transplant some time ago.
Rajinikanth, 70, said, "I see this as a warning given to me by the Lord. If
I campaigned only through the media and social media after I started the party,
I would not be able to create the political upheaval among people and win big
in the elections. No one with political experience will deny this reality."
"My hospitalisation was a warning given by God. My campaign will impact health
amid the pandemic," he said.
He had set up the Rajini Makkal Mandram two years ago. His fans had been longing
for his entry in politics for several years. Besides, the death of AIADMK leader
Jayalalitha and DMK leader M Karunanidhi had left a vacuum in Tamil politics
which they thought Rajinikath would fill.
