Mumbai-Guwahati Spicejet makes emergency landing at Kolkata airport


A Spicejet plane carrying 183 passengers and crew made an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport in the wee hours of Wednesday due to suspected fuel leakage. All passengers were safe. The flight landed at 8:58 am. The plane was flying from Mumbai to Guwahati.

KOLKATA, Feb 27: A Spicejet plane flying from Mumbai to Guwahati made an emergency landing at the airport here on Wednesday morning after suspected fuel leak. There were 183 passengers and crew on board. The airliner later reported all passengers were safe and deboarded. The flight landed at 8:58 am.

According to airport sources, fuel leakage is a very rare mishap. However, it has been reported that it was not a case of leakage of fuel but water.

The director of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA) told reporters that the pilot had informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at 8:45 am of the suspected fuel leakage and sought permission for emergency landing.
